Located between Lansing (Michigan's capitol city) and Grand Rapids (Michigan's second largest city), Westphalia offers the peace and solitude of small town life, with all the convenience and opportunity of larger metropolitan areas just a short drive away. Westphalia was founded in 1836 by a group of Roman Catholic settlers from Westphalia, Germany. Although the village now enjoys a more diverse population, it still maintains strong roots to its origin. Descendants of the early settlers can still be found living in the area today. We may be small, but we're not sleepy! Westphalia is a progressive community that has enjoyed steady growth as exemplified by several recent residential and commercial developments. Our downtown offers shops, stores, restaurants and commercial businesses in a clean, safe and friendly hometown atmosphere. We also have excellent schools and many recreational opportunities. So whether you're just passing through, or plan to stay awhile, Westphalia welcomes you!
